My Peace Corps Timeline – so far…
January, 2010 – Applied to the Peace Corps to become a volunteer
February, 2010 – Received a nomination to be a primary teacher trainer in the South Pacific
- finger-printed for legal clearance
March-April, 2010 – doctor appointments, vaccinations and dental appointments for medical and dental clearance
May, 2010 – received dental clearance
May 31, 2010 – retired from teaching
June, 2010 – received medical clearance
October, 2010 – received an official invitation to become a teacher of English to elementary students in the country of Bulgaria
- accepted official invitation
- forwarded updated resume and affirmation statement to PC Bulgaria
- - completed paperwork for PC passport and visa
November, 2010 – Began learning the Bulgarian language alphabet along with Bulgaria’s history, weather, and geography.
February, 2011 – discovered a Face Book page dedicated to the “B27’s” – the 27th group to be sent to Bulgaria by the Peace Corps. Through FB, I’ve been getting acquainted with some of the B26’s who are already serving in Bulgaria and some who will be traveling there with me.
Currently – Still working to learn the language and complete paperwork. Getting ready to sell my car - very nice 2004 Volkswagen Passat station wagon :)
Sunday, March 27, 2011 – Fly out of Mason City; destination: Philadelphia
Monday, March 28 – Staging/orientation at Crowne Plaza Hotel noon to 7:00 P.M.
Tuesday, March 29 – Bus to NYC and fly out of JFK at 5:30P.M.; destination Sofia, Bulgaria, with a layover in Munich
Wednesday, March 30 – Arrive Sofia and begin 12 weeks of training
